About

Amélie Losier was born in 1976 in Versailles, France. She studied german literature and civilization in Paris, France and Berlin, Germany, had classes at École des Beaux Arts in Paris and studied documentary photography with Arno Fischer at the Photography School am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin.

Street photography, portrait-reportages and multimedia storytelling are her main focus. She is most interested in photographing people in their self-contained world. By trying to become inconspicuous with her small format pictures, and even more with recorded sounds and videos, she shows people who, because of their situation or activities, take distance from a society or illustrate a small part of a certain society. One of her main topic is about womens’ life.

Amélie Losier is now living and working as a freelance photojournalist in Berlin on her own projects, for newspapers and magazines and for culture institutions. She works with newspapers like: Die Tageszeitung, Le Monde, Témoignage Chrétien, Marie-Claire, Die Zeit. Since she was 2005 awardee of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, she is teaching reportage- and portrait-photography to children and young people for the Academy of fine Arts Berlin and other Art-Institutions. She had already several solo and group exhibitions and some of her works were published in books.

Artis statement
Taking photographs is my way of expression, the camera is an extension of my index finger: photography allows me to capture feelings that I would otherwise not be able to express. Through my pictures, I hope to stop the viewers in their tracks, just like I was stopped while capturing the moment.
Most of my images are either reportage or portraits. Taking these I orient myself by the reality I see. As an observer, I capture moments in life and try to take pictures that can speak for themselves. I only rely on light and settings of the pictures, and at times I record sound to the images.
My work always reflects my desire to stay as close to the reality I see and to be as honest as possible. I select topics that arouse my curiosity and reflect my interests and what I experience.
Through photography I hope to learn more about the world that surrounds me.
Amélie Losier
