Exhibition . SAYEDA, Egyptian Women
April 2016 . Amman, Jordan
I am very happy to be invited at the 5th edition of the Image Festival Amman 2016, organized by Linda Al Khoury, Director of the House of Photography Darat Al Tasweer, to exhibit my new work SAYEDA on Egyptian Women at the Institut Français de Jordanie and give a workshop to young Jordan photographers. With the support of Goethe-Institut Jordan, EUNIC Jordan, and Institut Français de Jordanie.
SAYEDA is a photographic work about women in Egypt. I travelled to Egypt on various occasions to do portraits and interviews with women from different walks of life. Many people in Egypt fight against violations of human, and in particular, women´s rights. In my work, I approache Egyptian women from different social environments whose position in society depends on religion, education, age and socio-economic situation. My work explores the issue of what it means to be a woman in Egypt today. In 2014, I received a grant from the German foundation “VG Bild-Kunst” for this project. 2015 I was also award the “Grenzgänger” scholarship from the Literarisches Colloqium Berlin and the Robert Bosch Foundation, and my work was supported by the Goethe-Institut in Cairo.
